COVID-19 isn’t going away, and since flu season is right around the corner, it’s important for everyone to be vigilant in keeping their hands clean to prevent the spread of illness. We all touch so many surfaces a day, it can be tough to remember just how often we should be washing our hands. Here are a few recommendations that may help add to your list of when to wash!

  • Any time food is involved: before, during, and after preparing, eating, or serving food
  • Any time waste products are involved: taking out garbage, using the bathroom, changing a child’s diaper, adding to compost piles, handling dirty dishes or laundry
  • Any time you’re working with animals: feeding, watering, playing with, touching, cleaning up after, or washing pets and other animals
  • Any time your hands are soiled: applying makeup, treating wounds on yourself or others, applying body products, using cleaning chemicals
  • Any time you’ve been touching public surfaces: ATM’s, door handles, stair rails, gas pumps

You should also remember to wipe down personal items such as car keys, car interiors, doorknobs at home, wallet contents, and cell phones to reduce cross contamination as often as possible. If you can’t wash all the time, keep sanitizing wipes, gels, or sprays nearby.
